about

The second release from the elusive artist Emmett Perlman is a pulsating techno track of undulating bass swells and cryptic voices that work their way in to the deepest recess of the mind. This eleven minute stormer is given a twisted treatment by Nick Payne with his remix that brings forth a tidal wave of sub bass headiness best suited for the late night hours. Housed in a hand printed jacket the release is limited to 250 copies, and comes with a letterpress printed linear note sleeve, and a sticker.

Perlman's single "Forced March" is a meditation on the brutality of National Socialism. Deriving its title from the Nazi act of forcing prisoners of war to walk for miles on end, in miserable conditions, the single evokes a dark and brooding moodiness meant to invoke the monotony and misery suffered by the victims of such atrocities. A sense of unease builds as creaking and crackling filtered frequencies slowly creep along creating tension over time. Metallic clanging overdriven drums, and washes of reverb flood the ears, as midrange drones pan across a back drop of dissonance that is held together by a throbbing bass line, and a pounding kick drum. The track explodes in a crescendo of squelching hypnotic synths and a voice calling for "revolution" against the fascist regime. Perlman's work comes at a time when the far-right is on the rise both in Europe and the United States, making it a timely reminder that diligence is always required in order to keep the ideology of hate at bay.

DJ and producer Nick Payne brings his twisted sensibilities to the table and offers up an excellent counter point to Perlman's original. He manipulates the cryptic voices by turning them in to a melodic rhythmic components that mesmerize the mind as they repeat an indecipherable chant that pans back and forth across awash of trance inducing synths that continually pulse as a massive wall of bass pushes the track full steam ahead taking the dance floor to its full potential. Payne provides a punishing edit that will shred at peak hours when the crowd is going wild and liberating their desires.
